Comping at Christmas
Advent calendar competitions
Two different things go by this name. UK prize draw operators raffle boxed advent calendars, mostly beauty ones, and those are the draws listed above. In December, brands, magazines and shops also run daily giveaways with a new prize each day up to Christmas Eve. We don't list those, because they aren't run by the prize draw operators we review.
Postal entries and the Christmas post
Most paid draws take a free postal entry with the same odds as a ticket. The entry has to arrive before the operator's postal deadline, which can be earlier than the online closing time. December post is slow, so check Royal Mail's last recommended posting dates for Christmas and send yours a week or more before the deadline. Operators also differ on format: some want a postcard and others accept a letter in an envelope, so read the terms first.
Fake Christmas giveaways
Scam pages get busy in December. The usual pattern is a page that asks you to like, share and comment, then messages "winners" asking for card details to cover delivery. A genuine operator never charges you to receive a prize. Our guide to fake "you've won" messages covers the common versions, and the 60-second legit check works on any site you haven't used before.
18+ only. Paid entries are a cost, so set a Christmas budget before you start. Help is on our responsible play page.
Christmas competitions: FAQs
What Christmas competitions are open in the UK in 2026?+
Right now we're tracking 23 Christmas-themed draws, 13 of them for advent calendars, from UK operators we review. Counting every draw we list, 1,032 draws close before Christmas Day. The list refreshes daily, so new Christmas draws appear as operators open them.
How do advent calendar competitions work?+
There are two kinds. Prize draw operators raffle boxed advent calendars, mostly beauty calendars, and the winner gets the calendar to open from 1 December. Brands, magazines and shops run the other kind: a daily giveaway through December with a new prize behind each door. This page lists the first kind. The advent draws we're tracking close between 20 October and 20 November.
Can I enter Christmas competitions for free?+
Yes. 8 free draws close before Christmas, and most paid draws also take a free postal entry with the same odds as a ticket. Send the postal entry early in December, because it has to arrive before the operator's postal deadline.
When should I post a free entry so it arrives in time?+
Read the operator's terms for its postal deadline first. It is often earlier than the online closing time, and it is the date your entry must arrive, not the date you post it. Royal Mail publishes last recommended posting dates for Christmas each year; in December, aim to post a week or more before the operator's deadline and keep proof of postage.
Will I get my prize before Christmas?+
Only if the draw closes early enough and the operator can deliver in time. Cash goes by bank transfer, so it usually lands faster than a boxed prize that has to be shipped. If the prize is meant as a present, pick a draw that closes in November or early December and read the operator's delivery terms before you enter.
How can I tell if a Christmas giveaway is fake?+
A genuine operator never asks for a fee to release a prize, and it publishes its terms, its company details and a free entry route. Be wary of a social media page that asks you to like, share and comment, then messages you asking for card details. Run any site you're unsure about through our legit check.
